3 Reasons for Low Testosterone in Men

It’s a common issue for men all over the world nowadays: low testosterone. When you look at the “root cause factors” of what exactly causes low testosterone, the problem makes complete sense!

Testosterone is A REALLY IMPORTANT hormone for men. It’s heart-protective, regulates metabolism, determines repair and healing, regulates sleep and promotes healthy energy during the day.

Once a man reaches the age of 30, they will typically loose 1.6% of testosterone EVERY YEAR for the rest of their life! Why are men losing so much testosterone at such a young point in their lives?

The answer is LIFESTYLE. The 3 root cause factors of low testosterone are based in lifestyle, which means that with a few small tweaks, we can start to see testosterone improve, naturally!

The 3 Causes of Low Testosterone

1- Too Much Stress

Our bodies are wired to handle a healthy amount of stress. But too much stress over an extended period of time can be real issue. This is especially true in the case of testosterone. A stressed out male body will shove many of the hormone building blocks over to cortisol, rather then testosterone, resulting in a decrease in healthy testosterone production overtime.

The damage is two-fold with stress. Stress also works to lower testosterone as it can trigger the over-conversion of testosterone into estrogen. All estrogen in the body is made from testosterone. This conversion is totally normal, as estrogen has important roles in anatomically male bodies. However, the over conversion of testosterone to estrogen can cause real health challenges like high cholesterol, heart disease, weight gain, brain fog and depression.

The Natural Solution: help lower stress!

Of course, if stress, take a good look at what’s causing the stress and do your very best to manage it. Does a new schedule need to be implemented, emotional boundaries re-established etc.

You can also use plant remedies to help blunt the stress response physiologically, so that the burst of stress hormones aren’t so severe.

Here are 3 of my favorite essential oils that have been shown to help blunt the stress response:

  1. Grapefruit essential oil: 1 drop in a glass of water, or sip on throughout the day. It’s delicious, great for your liver and also helps to tame the stress response
  2. Adaptiv blend: contains essential oils that work on the endocannabinoid system and help to calm the feelings of stress and anxiousness
  3. Petitgrain: an herbal smelling oil that works like Lavender to calm stress and promote feelings of relaxation

2- Too Much Inflammation

Excess inflammation in the body will trigger an increase in cortisol, one of our stress hormones. Cortisol is the body’s natural “steroid shot” in that helps to cool inflammation for short periods of time. If you’ve ever had a steroid shot in the shoulder or knee or back, you know what I’m talking about.

Inflammation is too easy to accumulate for the modern day male who partakes in fast food, processed food, GMO (genetically modified) foods or too much alcohol. Toxin laden body care products like cologne, body wash and hair care can also trigger inflammation with each exposure, leading to little onsets of fires building up in the body throughout the day. Finally, consider the work environment. If a man is working with toxic chemicals or working in a building with mold, this too can trigger a steady build up of inflammation, day in and day out.

The best the thing to do in this case is to

  1. Eliminate as much of the toxic junk as possible. Go natural with the body care, the lotions and the colognes. Choose to eat foods that are not full of synthetic chemicals, preservative and GMO’s. There is plenty that you don’t have control over (like a work environment), so control the stuff that you can.
  2. Implement plant remedies that promote healthy inflammatory levels. Here are a few that are super effective:
  • Turmeric Essential oil: 3 drops in a vegetable capsules 1-2 times daily

  • Copaiba softgel: take 2-3 softgels each night before bed

  • or Frankincense Essential Oil: take 2-3 drops under tongue 1-2 times daily

  • or Deep Blue Polyphenol Complex or Alpha CRS: take full dose twice daily

3- Excess Estrogen Exposure

There are A LOT of estrogen-like substances that we are exposed to each and every day. Most of these interactions are completely unrecognized as well.

I already mentioned them above because of what they do to trigger inflammation: toxic foods, toxic chemicals in body care and hair care products and also environmental toxins.

We can’t do a lot about the environmental toxins, except sign petitions. However we can effectively limit the food and body care exposures.

You can also help the body better detoxify and eliminate these toxins, preventing them from hanging out in the body and driving down testosterone levels.

Here are some simple lifestyle rituals that can help make that happen:

  • Eat more cruciferous vegetables: this family of veggies help the liver process estrogens!
  • Drink citrus essential oils: citrus oils help the liver detox chemicals more efficiently
    • 1 drop Lemon essential oil in 10-16 ounces of water

    • 1 drop Grapefruit essential oil in 10-16 ounces of water (also great for triggering fat burning)

    • 1 drops Zendocrine blend in 10-16 ounces of water: this blend is a bit of heavier detoxifier, so go for this one if you’re ready to really step up your detox game.
